Professional Evaluation-

You and your partner will fill out several New Patient Intake Forms in order to assess
your unique situation. Our Fertility Specialists will review your case and decide how to
guide you. There are a few common paths from this point.

  • Traditional Chinese Medical (TCM) Treatment
If this is the chosen route by your Fertility Specialist at NC Natural Fertility, a TCM differential diagnosis will be given and a customized treatment plan will be developed to meet your unique needs.

Your treatment plan may include any or all of the following:
  1. Acupuncture
  2. Herbal Medicine
  3. Nutritional and Lifestyle Counseling
  4. Specific Exercise Program: TaiJi, Qigong, Yoga
  5. Mental Discipline Techniques and Meditation
  • Referral to an OB/GYN or Reproductive Endocrinologist
Our Fertility Specialists have treated hundreds of patients that have been treated by (NCCRM) North Carolina Center for Reproductive Medicine, Carolina Conceptions, UNC and Duke University Fertility Programs as well as many OB/GYNs in the Triangle Area.We can help guide you to the proper place where you may be served most effectively for your particular situation.  Western diagnostic techniques can assist the Fertility Specialists at NC Natural Fertility to determine if you have any structural difficulties which may prevent you from conceiving on your own. Things like blocked fallopian tubes, an irregular shaped uterus, cysts,  fibroids, irregular sperm, ovulation defects, etc.   After you have seen your MD, your Fertility Specialist at NC Natural Fertility will review any findings and recommend an appropriate treatment plan or further referral.
  • Both Western Assisted Reproductive Therapies and TCM.
Sometimes a combined approach makes the most sense. Often our patients will undergo TCM treatment for three to four months prior to doing Assisted Reproductive Therapies with their OB/GYNs or Reproductive Endocrinologists. The reason for this is to balance the body in a natural way first before attempting the more expensive Western Fertility treatments. By optimizing the body before you attempt an IUI or IVF cycle, you increase your chances of conceiving by performing better. Acupuncture increases bloodflow to reproductive organs, reduces inflammation, and other side effects associated with these treatments.  When women are using Follicular Stimulating Hormones (FSH) to stimulate the ovaries, acupuncture can help to guide more blood to the ovaries and increase follicular growth with less medicine. This is a good thing for several reasons. First, FSH is very expensive so including acupuncture can lower your overall cost for an IVF cycle. Second, the more FSH that is used increases your risks for Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHS), so using less makes a lot of sense. Third, it has been our observation that women that are required to use more FSH to stimulate the ovaries
produce poor quality follicles, have lower fertilization rates, and do not have as high a yield of embryos to transfer to the uterus for a chance of imp
lantation.
